Band 9 Model Answer
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my eager interest in the six-month live-in childcare position advertised in the recent edition of the Australian Family magazine.
I am highly motivated to apply for this role because it offers a unique opportunity to immerse myself in Australian culture while doing work I genuinely love. I am planning to commence a formal degree in Primary Education next year, and spending six months caring for your six-year-old child would provide me with invaluable, practical experience in a home environment.
I believe I am an exceptionally suitable candidate for this position. Over the past three years, I have worked extensively as a summer camp counselor and a regular after-school tutor for children aged five to eight. I am highly energetic, deeply patient, and fully certified in pediatric first aid. Furthermore, I excel at organizing educational games and assisting with early reading and writing development.
During my free time in Australia, I intend to fully explore the breathtaking natural landscapes your country is famous for. I plan to join a local hiking or surfing club to stay active and meet new people, and I also hope to take a weekend photography course to document my travels.
I have attached my references and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you via video call.
Yours faithfully,
Emre Yılmaz

IELTS General Training Writing Task 2: The Future of Physical Shops
The Task:
The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing.
Do you agree or disagree?
Write at least 250 words.
Task 2
Band 9 Model Essay
In recent years, the exponential growth of e-commerce has fundamentally transformed the global retail landscape, leading some to predict the complete eradication of physical storefronts in towns and cities. While I agree that online shopping will continue to cause significant closures among traditional retailers, I completely disagree with the assertion that all shops will eventually close. Physical stores will survive by evolving into experiential spaces and catering to immediate consumer needs.
The primary reason physical shops will endure is the human desire for a tangible, sensory shopping experience. While purchasing standard commodities like electronics or books is easily done online, acquiring items such as high-end fashion, tailored clothing, or fresh produce often requires physical inspection. Consumers naturally want to feel the texture of a fabric, try on a garment for the perfect fit, or smell the freshness of groceries before committing to a purchase. Consequently, forward-thinking retailers are already transforming their shops from mere inventory warehouses into immersive “showrooms” where the focus is on brand experience and personalized customer service rather than simple transactions.
Furthermore, there is a vast sector of the retail and service industry that simply cannot be replicated by digital platforms, regardless of how fast delivery networks become. Pharmacies dispensing urgent medication, local convenience stores providing immediate necessities, and service-based shops like hair salons or bespoke tailors rely entirely on physical presence. Additionally, high streets and shopping malls serve a vital social function. They are communal hubs where people gather to drink coffee, dine, and socialize. The psychological need for human interaction and community spaces ensures that commercial districts will never become entirely virtual.
In conclusion, although the convenience and competitive pricing of online shopping will undoubtedly force many conventional businesses to shut their doors, it will not lead to the total extinction of the physical shop. Retailers that adapt by offering unique, hands-on customer experiences, alongside stores that provide immediate, localized services, will permanently secure the future of the traditional high street.
💡 Why this is a Band 9 Answer:
- Task Response: The essay perfectly addresses the instructions. It clearly states a strong disagreement with the absolute word “all” in the statement, and thoroughly justifies this stance by highlighting experiential retail and immediate-need services.
- Coherence & Cohesion: The essay utilizes a highly effective four-paragraph structure. Transition phrases guide the reader effortlessly through the complex arguments (The primary reason, Consequently, Furthermore, Additionally, In conclusion).
- Lexical Resource: Showcases an exceptional, sophisticated vocabulary suited for an economic and sociological discursive essay (exponential growth, physical storefronts, tangible, sensory shopping experience, immersive showrooms, communal hubs).
- Grammatical Range & Accuracy: Uses a wide variety of complex grammatical structures perfectly, creating a highly persuasive, authoritative, and academic tone.
